The 10 Official Poker Hand Rankings in Exact Order
Before placing a single rupee on a poker table, you must know exactly which hand beats which. In Texas Hold'em and Omaha, the standard 52-card deck produces ten distinct hand ranks.
1. Royal Flush: A, K, Q, J, 10 all in the same suit. The rarest and highest possible hand.
2. Straight Flush: Five consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g. 9-8-7-6-5 of hearts).
3. Four of a Kind: Four cards of the same rank (e.g. four Kings with any kicker).
4. Full House: Three cards of one rank plus two of another (e.g. three Aces and two Tens).
5. Flush: Any five cards of the same suit, not in numerical sequence.
6. Straight: Five cards in numerical sequence of mixed suits.
7. Three of a Kind: Three cards of the same rank (a set or trips).
8. Two Pair: Two distinct pairs (e.g. two Queens and two Sevens).
9. One Pair: Two cards of identical rank.
10. High Card: No matching cards; the highest single card plays.
Understanding Kicker Cards & Tie-Breaker Rules
What happens when two players hold the same made hand, like a pair of Aces? The tie is broken by the 'kicker'—the highest remaining card in the five-card hand.
If player A holds A-K and player B holds A-Q on an A-8-4-3-2 board, player A wins with Ace pair and King kicker. Knowing kicker math prevents costly showdown mistakes.
